The Battle
The Battle of Stalingrad began on July 17, 1942 and ended on February 2, 1943 and took place during WW II. This Battle was one of the bloodiest battles in history, with nearly 2 million deaths of troops and civilians. This war may have killed many people but it stopped Germans from advancing into the Soviet Union and in favor of the Allies, and created a turning point in the war.
“Bombing started at ten in the morning and we saw a large number of planes flying over. The planes were dropping bombs into the center of the city. Everything was ablaze. There was noise and screaming. Some people managed to get back to their ruined homes. There was constant fear that we felt. We wanted to survive the war. We were just always wondering where to get food. We were constantly hungry.”
